Sheriff Garland Brewster Sr.
Term: 1927-1950

Garland Brewster, Sr., was sheriff of Jefferson County from January 1, 1927 to December 31, 1950, a total of twenty-four (24) years and longer than any other sheriff since the county was formed in 1830.  Prior to his election as sheriff, Brewster had a successful career in the brick manufacturing and building material businesses.

Brewster served the county with honesty and fairness to all which enabled him to remain in office until he retired in 1950 due to ill health at the end of his twelfth term.  Deer hunting was his chief hobby and his other interests included the Lakeside Methodist Church, where he served on the board of trustees, the Masons and the Sahara Shrine Temple.
