JEFFERSON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE INVESTIGATING IN JAIL DEATH:  On April 12, 2024 at approximately 8:00 AM W.C. "Dub" Brassell Adult Detention Deputies learned of a detainee who was unconscious. Deputies, as well as a jail nurse, responded and attempted to revive the detainee through cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and an automated external defibrillator (AED) but were unsuccessful. The detainee was pronounced deceased at approximately 8:55 AM. The identity of the detainee is being withheld pending notification of immediate family.

This is an ongoing investigation, and any other information will be released when possible.
