Thank you for your employment interests.  The Jack Jones Juvenile Justice Center (JJC), a juvenile detention facility under the direction of Jefferson County Sheriff is currently accepting applications for a "School Resource Officer". 

 

JEFFERSON COUNTY – SHERIFF’S OFFICE

JOB DESCRIPTION

 

POSITION TITLE:                     Juvenile Justice Center School Resource Officer (SRO) *Part-Time

 

REPORTS TO:                           Juvenile Justice Administrator

 

PURPOSE OF POSITION:          In a school or educational setting, problem solving involves coordinated efforts among administrators, teachers, student detainees, parents, and community-based stakeholders.  SRO's frequently assist in resolving problems that are not necessarily law violations, such as bullying or disruptive behavior, but which are nonetheless safety issues that can result in or contribute to additional criminal incidents involving juveniles already in custody. 

  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain order within the school or educational setting
  • Develop and expand crime prevention efforts for student detainees
  • Assist in identifying environmental changes that can reduce subsequent infractions in or around the school
  • Assist in developing school policies that address crime and recommending procedural changes to implement those policies
  • Follow established procedures according to policy.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION AND/OR LICENSES:

 

Must possess a VALID DRIVER’S LICENSE at the time of hire.

 

Must possess a High School Diploma or GED.

 

Must be able to successfully complete a CRIMINAL BACKGROUND check including a DRUG SCREEN.
