Position Title: Information Technology Technician

Department: Jefferson County Sheriff's Office

Reports To: Information Technology Director

Work Locations: Sheriff's Office, Adult Detention Center, Juvenile Detention Center, Juvenile Circuit Court, and Prosecuting Attorney's Office

Job Type: Full-Time Regular

Salary: $45,000 annually plus benefits

JOB SUMMARY

 

The Information Technology Technician provides hands-on technical support for employees of the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and related county agencies. This is an entry-level IT position focused on helping users solve everyday technology problems, maintaining computer systems, and assisting with agency technology projects.

 

In addition to standard IT support duties, this position will assist with structured network cabling, electronic access control systems, and IP camera systems.

 

The technician works under the direction of the Information Technology Director and is expected to provide reliable, professional, and courteous service to all agency staff.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide in-person and remote technical support to end users with computer, software, printer, phone, and network issues
  • Install, configure, and maintain desktop and laptop computers, monitors, printers, and other IT equipment
  • Set up new user accounts, email, and workstation equipment
  • Troubleshoot and resolve hardware, software, and basic network connectivity problems
  • Assist users with common applications such as Microsoft Office, email, and agency software
  • Install and update operating systems, antivirus software, and security patches
  • Maintain inventory of IT hardware and software
  • Assist with network cabling installation, labeling, and organization
  • Help install and maintain IP cameras, video management systems, and electronic access control equipment
  • Respond to help-desk tickets and document work performed
  • Perform routine maintenance and system checks
  • Assist with technology projects as assigned by the IT Director
  • Provide basic user training and guidance when needed

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

 

The successful candidate should demonstrate:

  • Basic understanding of computers, printers, and networking
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical problems in a logical and organized way
  • Strong customer service and communication skills
  • Ability to explain technical issues in simple, non-technical language
  • Willingness to learn new systems and technologies
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks independently
  • Good organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work professionally with employees at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in various environments including offices, equipment rooms, and facilities throughout the county

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of computer hardware and software
  • Valid Arkansas Class C driver's license

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Information Technology or related field
  • Prior experience in a help-desk or technical support role
  • Industry certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or similar

 

No advanced experience is required. On-the-job training will be provided.

 

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must pass a thorough background investigation
  • Must pass psychological testing, physical examination, and drug screening
  • Must maintain a valid Arkansas driver's license with satisfactory driving record
  • Position may require occasional evening, weekend, or on-call work for emergencies or maintenance

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

Work is performed primarily in office and detention facility environments. The position requires regular walking between offices, carrying equipment, bending, kneeling, and occasional ladder use. Some work will involve equipment rooms, network closets, and field installations.
