Statement from the Sheriff

Sheriff Lafayette Woods, Jr. Observes Red Ribbon Week with School Visits and Prevention Outreach

"Red Ribbon Week is a powerful reminder that prevention starts with one conversation, one classroom, and one commitment at a time. From October 23 through 31, the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office is engaging students, educators, and families to champion healthy, drug-free choices and to reinforce the community supports that help our young people thrive.

Throughout the week, members of my staff and I, joined by McGruff the Crime Dog, will make a series of public appearances at area schools to highlight practical steps for safety, including medication security and disposal, resisting peer pressure, and seeking help for a friend in need. These visits are designed to be interactive, age appropriate, and rooted in the belief that every student deserves a safe environment and a strong network of caring adults.

I am grateful to our school leaders, counselors, parents, and community partners for opening their doors and their hearts to this work. Together, we can reduce risk, empower students, and keep Jefferson County a place where our children can learn, grow, and succeed.

As always, if you or someone you know needs resources or support, please reach out to our office. Prevention is a team effort, and in Jefferson County, our team is strong."

Respectfully,
