JEFFERSON COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE, AMERICAN RED CROSS HELPING SENIORS COOL DOWN THIS SUMMER: Jefferson County, Arkansas - July 29, 2015- Through the assistance and generous donations from the Southeast Arkansas Chapter of American Red Cross Employees, Michele Metott-Works and Stephanie Vardaman, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office collected fans for some Jefferson County, Arkansas seniors.

Through its Adopt-A-Grandparent Senior Check Program, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office learned through its recent visits to a couple of senior’s residents that they were in need of fans.

The sheriff’s office reached out to the Southeast Arkansas Chapter of the American Red Cross, who provided a number of fans. Fans were delivered to seniors, Mrs. Irene Green and Mrs. Claretha Grimes, both 89 years-of-age. Green and Grimes, who deputies became involved with through the sheriff's office Adopt-A-Grandparent Senior Check Program were pleased to receive the fans.

“With such high temperatures this summer and the National Weather Service predicting even hotter temperatures and humid days to come, we certainly hope through our efforts that we’re successful in providing some relief to local residents. Seniors as well as children are the main focus of our efforts. Our deputies know first-hand that any adult or child can quickly get overheated during high temperatures.”

The sheriff’s office is still collecting fans, which will be given to seniors who are at risk in the summer’s high temperatures. Donated fans must be new in the box, and UL approved. They can be dropped off anytime during normal business hours 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Mon-Fri at the Administrative Office of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, 101 E. Barraque Street, Suite 112 in Pine Bluff, AR.
