UPDATE: BODY FOUND IN SEARCH CONFIRMED AS MISSING JEFF CO. MAN: Jefferson County, Arkansas – January 24, 2019 - A body found in Cleveland County, Arkansas has been identified as 55-year-old John Gordon Honeycutt, whose suspicious disappearance was reported last week.
"I wish we had a different outcome for the Honeycutt family, for the community, and the group of law enforcement officers and searchers who put everything they had into finding Mr. Honeycutt alive," said Jefferson County Sheriff Lafayette Woods, Jr.
Honeycutt was last seen my family and friends at his residence in Jefferson County, Arkansas on the evening of Sunday, January 6, 2019. As part of their search efforts, Jeff County Sheriff’s Office (JCSO) Criminal Investigators from the agencies Criminal Investigation Division (CID) enlisted to help of neighboring law enforcements personnel to include the Cleveland County Sheriff’s Office, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office, Star City Police Department, Arkansas State Police, White Hall Police Department, and Redfield Police Department. However, search and recovery efforts were unsuccessful.
Working diligently, JCSO Investigator’s developed a suspect, who has been identified 37-year-old Cameron Jones a/k/a “Lion.”
Honeycutt’s body was found Thursday, January 17, 2019 in a wooded area off Glendale Road, just east of Serenity Lane in Cleveland County.
"Autopsy results from the Arkansas Medical Examiner’s Office were received this week, positively identifying the found body as Honeycutt. The autopsy also confirmed Honeycutt died of a gunshot wound and that his manner of death was homicide," said JCSO Operations Commander, Major Randy Dolphin.
Jones is currently being held at the Lincoln County Detention Center on unrelated charges and pending the formal filing of charges related to the murder of Honeycutt.
This investigation is on-going.
