BODY DISCOVERED INSIDE JEFFERSON COUNTY HOME; DEATH INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY: Jefferson County, AR - June 14, 2019 - The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Civil and Warrants Division had gone out to an address located on Edwards Street to serve a 24-hour rent eviction notice to an unidentified man on June 13, 2019. Upon serving the notice, the man stated that there would not be a problem with him leaving the property when they returned the next day.

Today, the Civil and Warrants Division along with the Criminal Investigation Division returned to the property around 9 a.m., finding the man in the home alone, lying lifeless on the living room floor with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to his chest. Due to the smell of gas, investigators immediately exited the property notifying the local fire department and the gas company CenterPoint Energy, who disconnected the gas and electricity in the home. Investigators recovered a long gun.

The Jefferson County Coroner has taken possession of the body and it will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Laboratory. More information will be released once the next of kin is notified.
