SHERIFF'S OFFICE HOLD A MEMORIAL TO HONOR FALLEN DETENTION DEPUTY: January 31, 2020 - JEFFERSON COUNTY, AR - Family, friends, law enforcement officers, elected officials, and others gathered at the Jack Jones Juvenile Detention Center for a memorial service to honor Leonard 'Sandy' Wall on the 10th anniversary of his death.

"I hope that you and our mother are looking down on us," said Wall's oldest brother Ferrel Wall. "God bless us all."

Wall, a former detention deputy at the Juvenile Detention Center, was severely beaten by three juvenile inmates during a routine security check on January 30, 2010. He sustained multiple injuries and was pronounced dead at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences Medical Center at Little Rock on January 31, 2010.

Family, friends and co-workers described Wall as a man of love and kindness who accepted the risks of being a detention deputy because he loved the youth and it meant serving others.

"He was my best friend and I loved him very much" said Jefferson County District 12 Justice of the Peace Ted Harden. "Sandy didn't have much, but he would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it."

Jefferson County Sheriff Lafayette Woods, Jr. shared his condolences with the family and ensured them that Wall's legacy will not be forgotten.

"There are no words adequate enough to express my sympathy for your loss," said Woods. "He may be gone, but he is not forgotten. His kindness and his work ethic will remain known. He is memorialized on the sheriff's office website, at our juvenile justice center, and at The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C."
