UPDATE - JEFFERSON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE INVESTIGATING A HOMICIDE:  Jefferson County, Arkansas - April 15, 2021 - The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is currently investigating a homicide.

On Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at approximately 9:37 p.m. Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Deputies were dispatched to a residence located in the 1300 block of Caney Road near White Hall in regards to an armed disturbance.  Upon arrival they discovered an unresponsive male who was subsequently pronounced deceased by Jefferson County Deputy Coroner April Davis.

The victim has been identified as Joe Stewart (40).  The body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy.

Varlon Ray Cummings (61) has been arrested and booked into the W.C. "Dub" Brassell Detention Center on charges of 1st Degree Murder.  The investigation is ongoing by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division.
