JEFFERSON COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE INVESTIGATING A HOMICIDE:  Jefferson County, Arkansas - June 5, 2021 - The Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID) is currently investigating a homicide.

On Saturday, June 5, 2021 at approximately 7:44 a.m. Jefferson County Sheriff's Office Deputies were dispatched to a residence located in the 10200 block of Sulphur Springs Road in regards to a disturbance.  While in route, deputies were informed that a male had been shot and that medical responders were also in route.

Upon arrival they discovered that a male had suffered from what appeared to be a single gunshot wound to the torso area and that CPR was being provided.  The male victim was identified as Zakary Chumney (35) of Mabelvale, AR.  Emergency Ambulance Services Inc transported the Chumney to Jefferson Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced deceased at 8:51 a.m.  The body is being sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab.

A suspect was identified as Bradley Scott Hartley (34) of Jefferson County.  Witnesses at the scene advised that Hartley fled into a wooded area south of the residence armed with a gun.  The Arkansas Department of Corrections K-9 team responded and searched the area but did not locate Hartley.  A short time later Hartley contacted the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office and surrendered from a nearby residence and was taken into custody without further incident.

The investigation is active and ongoing; however, Hartley is in custody.
